Chip Rutan
Chip Rutan’s photographs from local shorelines were made with Polaroid film and then digitally scanned, edited, and printed at a size which invites close inspection. With rare exceptions, the people in these pictures are strangers and photographed from a distance that guarantees anonymity. The inherent flaws of the Polaroid film and ever-changing shoreline backdrops add to the dreamlike qualities of the images and perhaps provide a portal to a simpler time and place.
