Life Happens... A 4- Session Program

  • WWM Library 146 Thimble Island Road Branford, CT, 06405 United States (map)

Continuing a 4-session program based on Karen Kernan’s recent presentation on “how to put your life in order and your wishes in writing.”

Each session focuses on one aspect of the task, offering you practical information that you can act on immediately and know how to give your family solid guidance and legal authority to act in time of need. This is an act of love.

Session 3 - Jan 10 - Final Wishes — Or So You think…

What are your wishes for the inevitable approach of old age, sickness, and death? Maybe you don’t know, or your ideas keep changing. Does your family know what you want or what you expect them to do? Have you given them legal authority?

Writer and Editor Karen Kernan will lead off this important discussion with a basic checklist to help us think through our choices for how we want to be treated during incapacity, during the dying process, and after we die. It’s a relief to have these basic decisions made and shared.

She will be joined by two guest presenters.

Retired Probate Judge Frank Forgione will explain what legal documents you need to ensure your wishes can be followed by family and medical personnel. Who would you entrust with conservatorship in case of your incapacity; who would you want making medical decisions for you if you cannot; and who should have final say over your body?  It needs to be in writing!

Maryann Bracken of Shoreline Village CT will describe a local support network that is helping people live independently at home for as long as possible, while staying engaged in the life of our wider community.
