Exhibit Name: Mixed Media and Paintings by Regina M. Thomas and Valerie Richardson
Artists Reception: Sunday February 2, 4-6 pm
Valerie Richardson is a painter and printmaker based in North Haven, Connecticut. She received a B.A. from the College of William and Mary in 1982 and an M.F. A. from Brooklyn College in 1988.
Her work is based on observation, primarily still life and landscape. The things represented are secondary to the process of making marks, exploring color, and looking for connections to the unspoken and unexpected reality that exists beyond the picture frame.
Valerie also works full-time as part of the development team at the Yale University Art Gallery and has a long involvement as a volunteer and programmer at community radio station WPKN-FM.
Collage and Mixed Media of Regina M. Thomas
Having lived and traveled throughout Asia and Europe, Regina availed herself of all the cultural “eye candy” from the obscure market places to some of the most famous Museums and Art Galleries. While in London, she attended Richmond University concentrating on the Art Disciplines as well as Studio classes. Upon her return to the states she continued refining her art through classes and workshops. She shows in private galleries, Resident Artist at Elm City Artists Gallery in New Haven, Elected Artist with New Haven Paint & Clay, as well as Gallery Artist with South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, Massachusetts. Regina has private collectors across the U.S., Europe, South America and Asia.
Regina’s collage and mixed media art is a mélange of visual stimuli, colors, and shapes involving different genres from the representational to the abstract. These multi-layered works portray her view of the world, never realistic, injecting her own narratives, metaphors, and icons. She works intuitively and her desire is to stimulate and intrigue the viewer, make a connection, bringing his or her own experiences to the work.
